Correlating the 50 sounds to the Mythology of the Kojiki
A commonality among the creation myths of many cultures is the emergence of order from chaos. In monotheistic culture the order is created by a singular God, and in polytheistic cultures an enumeration of the creation of one God after the other is told. The listing of energy in many creation myths obscure the meanings of the concepts that they were meant to describe and are difficult to understand. The structural system of the universe as told by the Kojiki is unique. The concept of the stratification of the energy of creation, along with the symmetrical development of brother / sister pairs of Gods that simultaneously break the previous strata while creating the next, is perhaps the most developed ancient concept of the nothingness, or chaos, from which creation emerged.
The following list is a composite summary of Kotodama Linguistic theory of correlation of the 50 sounds of the Japanese syllabary with the Gods of the creation myth of the Kojiki as recorded in Ongasawara’s book, “A Hundred Gods Residing in Kotodama.” While a few notes are added to give a very loose interpretation of what these Gods are described, an in depth study of the Kojiki mythology and cultural expressions of the energetic concepts as they have been preserved through customs and ceremony is needed to understand in more depth. Nanasawa has created the sound mandala based on this concept to help visualize and meditate on this concept (see next page).
